  1. I enjoy listening to your show so much, despite the sad fact that I will never play most of the games you talk about. And that brings me to the subject of this post.

The games I love are pretty much all first and third person shooters, and I know there’s a ton of games out there like that. But sadly many of them lack a simple feature that I think is critical.

    Quick Save.

There’s been, for the last 5 years or so, a growing sentiment among both developers and hard core gamers that the ability to quick save is kinda like cheating. After all, where’s the sense of achievement, if you can simply repeat the same battle over and over again till you get the outcome you want.

If you feel that way, fine. I’m neither a hard core gamer, nor am I a developer. I’m the guy with money in his pocket looking for games to buy, and without the ability to quick save, I’m not buying that game. I LIKE being able to repeat battles over and over again till I get the outcome I want. I’ve been known to reload a quick save just because I think that, if I try it just one more time, I can clear a room without taking ANY Damage at all. Or, sometimes I just want to see what the different outcomes will be of any particular choice I make. (This was definitely worthwhile with Dues Ex).

Thus I plead with you to mention this issue and remind developers that, while there are many who might prefer games with a limited ability to save, there are few who will refuse to buy a game because it’s too easy to save.

Thank you very much for reading this post.

  2. Aww, you read my email! I hope you ladies get a chance to try out Spec Ops: The Line, it’s a reboot of a so-so PS1 franchise, and deals with PTSD. It’s got those moral dilemmas scattered throughout the game, but most of the choices have more than 2 possible outcomes, and like I said some of it will make you really sad. Available for PC/PS3/XBox, and they just patched in 2 player Co-op mode.
